My new blog! And a new quilt!

I am starting a new blog to share my journey in fiber fun!

First up.... A quilt I have had on the back burner for 2 years! I'm painting a dreamcatcher on a quilt that will have 7 faces around the dreamcatcher. The base of the quilt is a pattern of a rug my grandmother wove before her passing in 1975. I dyed the fabric and made the base so the dreamcatcher and faces are on her rug design. My Grandmother will be in the center w/ my kids and 3 grandkids around the outer edges of the catcher. My question is this.... Does the arrangement have balance? I have moved around the people and want some input as to what your opinion is!

#1 - Balanced? or....#2? I am still painting the dreamcatcher. It's taped off so the paint doesn't run.....

#2 - I have rearranged the two kids so that all the boys are on the right... does this look better than the top arrangement?

Here is a close up of the color of the dreamcatcher. I used shiva paintsticks and still need to add thread painting to get the desired effect I want.

  2. I like the arrangement number 1 also I think the balance in that one is better. The colors more evenly distributed is what I see. The one with the boys on one side girls on the other puts all the dark somber colors together and weights down that side. IMHO

    1. Thanks Eve. I had never even thought about all the somber/dark colors being on the one side. Thanks for pointing that out!

  3. It's beautiful!!! IMO and I'm not really experienced with this kind of thing, I think it's almost too balanced. I would prefer not quite so symmetric. Maybe the large one and a small one on one side and the three others starting at the bottom center and up the side? But "Delighted Hands" is a great quilter, maybe it's just me :))

  4. What a great quilt! I think you have to decide if you want the girls on one side and the boys on the other; but I like the color distribution on #1. Have you played with different people being in the center? I look forward to seeing what you do!

    1. Terry, that's a great question! I have not played around with the placement of who is in the middle thinking my grandmother should be. I am going to start playing around with that along with the color placement!
